Why do ones that got out come back in?

i have not been to a meeting for about 2 years now.

i do not intend to go back but one thing has me baffled.

DY - we were all in this cult at some point in time so lying about the cult doesn't work.

I am getting tired of you preaching about how great the JW lifestyle is. It isn't, it keeps from living their lives and reaching their potential. It ruins people's lives, keeps them captive even when they want to be free. The people are not perfect and they subscribe to archaic policies that hurt abuse victims. Even my own family shun disfellowshipped ones, in a sadistic ritual meant to emotionally blackmail people to return to cult life. Yep they are all great loving people 🙄

How does one cope with the sudden and unexpected loss of a parent?

my dad died of a blood clot as a result of surgery late last year.

to say that his death created a bottomless void in our family is an understatement.

I am so sorry for your loss. I think each of us grieves differently and I do think therapy is helpful.

For me changing my perspective helped some. What would my deceased loved one want for me? He would have wanted me to live my life, he would not have wanted me to be unbearably sad. I also found ways to honor him, and sometimes when having a particularly good time I still say "xxxx would have loved this."

Mostly just be kind to yourself, this is never easy. Hugs ❤️

Last Memorial Experiences

i'll share mine first.... i had never missed a memorial for at least a quarter of a century of my life.

i was kind of raised to believe that missing the memorial was a sin in itself.. by 2013 memorial season, i was missing most of my meetings (even though i was still technically part of my foreign language congregation), and i had just come off the pioneer list.

i still made plans to attend the memorial (god forbid if i missed that lol).. i knew that typically our memorials were around 9 pm, since we usually got last priority (being a foreign language hall and all).

The last time I went to a memorial (almost 20 years ago) I wore a pantsuit. You should have seen the looks I got :-)

I Give Up!

im giving up guys.

i've reached the end of my patience and now i finally refuse to waste any more time on part-time witnesses.

i've text all of my active jw family members and told them to delete my number from their phone and never contact me again.

I don't even attempt to speak to my siblings, it's too hard. They are ignorant and arrogant, but, of course when you have the "truth" everyone else is stupid 🙄

What made you stay "in" even when you knew it wasn't the "truth"?

so i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.

i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.

some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.

The point is to get out and meet people. In my town there is always something going on.

Making gift bags for the residents of the nursing home, or visiting the people who don't have relatives.

Back to school supply drives or Fill the backpack events - every Friday- backpacks get filled with food for kids that don't get fed properly at home.

Volunteer at Fundraisers for people who have cancer/ lost their homes etc. Its a great way to meet people and see the kindness " worldly people" display.

There is a senior center that hosts daily luncheon,with card games, bingo etc. they take bus trips together. They have water aerobics several times a week.

Have fun and an open mind.

DY- you are kidding, right? I don't know what kind of worldly people you hang out with, but the majority are not drug addicts, drunks, or any worse gossips than JWs.

Geesh, join a book club, take a painting class (sip & paints rock), check with your local chamber for fun things to meet new people. The best part is I hang out with a group, we have let's say painting in common. That's it, no one expects me to believe everything they do, don't stalk me to make sure I am not breaking the painting rules. And It's mutual, we are painting friends, that's it.

I wish I could post a picture of my husband on here without outing myself. ❤️

He is tall, dark hair, light blue eyes. Has a man body, not skinny - not fat, muscled. I don't like the skinny, boylike bodies so popular with young men today.

I like manly men, who can grow a beard, have a little hair on their chest 😀

My Younger Brother Has Left The Witnesses!! :-D

absolutely thrilled to give you the news that my younger brother, a zealous full-time pioneer has left the witnesses!!.

i haven't seen or spoke to him in a year.

i'd lost all contact with him, no facebook, no mobile number, i didn't even know his address because he'd moved house.
